El Iral Cloud Forest

This past Friday, we went up to El Iral in Coronado, the nearest cloud forest to our home in Curridabat, about a 40-minute drive.

Coronado is not a place we go often, although it was the first trip we made with our van, but I’ve never made it this far.

We tackled the 3 km loop with our kids and our neighbors’ family. Most of the adults were happily in the slow lane, while the kids rushed ahead, singing and joking.

The park has several trails totaling 50 km (31 miles) of different paths. We picked one from the beginner’s set.

This trail is quite suitable for children, though it does involve some altitude that can be a bit challenging. The weather kept shifting quickly, with fog enveloping the landscape, making trees and fences fade into the mist from time to time. We did experience a brief rain, but it soon cleared up.

After the hike, we got some delicious snacks (sandwich, hamburger and fried chicken) from the restaurant. We will definitely be coming back for more adventures!
